Psalm 23: Insights by Jewel
If you read our earlier introduction, you will remember our prompting by the Holy Spirit to write a His and Hers insight on whatever subject the Lord was teaching us personally about. Kent and I wanted to share our recent learnings on Psalm 23. He posted his insight previous to this. I encourage you to read both our His and Hers insights together on each topic.
Think of us as 2 farmhands out feeding the flock for the Master Owner. The Lord will draw each of you uniquely to receive the nourishment you need, to receive His personal word for your heart, or to be drawn to understand the next step He wants you to take in your life based on what happens in that secret meeting room in your heart of hearts within you, as you ponder with Him.
Some of the comments about Psalm 23 that Kent shared already, I also felt in my heart from the Lord. Therefore, I will only share here the additional ones so as to provide you with something fresh and new.
Psalm 23:6
"Surely goodness and mercy (faithfulness, unfailing love, faithful love, lovingkindness) shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever (eternally, for endless days, as long as I live, for the length of my days, for days without end)."
Here it is in Hebrew below:
Akh tov va-chesed yirdefuni kol-yemei chaiyai,
ve-shavti be-veit-Adonai le-orekh yamim.
Now in broken down Hebrew definition, word by word, and interpreted by the Spirt:
"I surely affirm (to you), the Lord's pleasant/agreeable goodness will pursue/chase/follow me (you) the entirety of my (your) days upon the earth, and I (you) will dwell/settle into a loving, personal, abiding relationship, like a marriage/remain in intimacy with the Lord, my (your) Husband, forever/eternally bound to Him."
This is beautiful. I urge you to read it in personal reference using me/my/I. Can you see how it really opens up the deeper meaning of abiding?
The new learning I had while reading this verse was its position at the end of the Psalm. I used to think it was a general conclusion for the previous verses. Now I see it as a glimpse into what He has done for us our entire lives.
Jesus Christ has been spiritually pursuing us throughout time and eternity. His love has motivated Him to pursue a love relationship with us even when we were still dead in our trespasses and sins.
Romans 5:8
But God proves (demonstrates, clearly shows, displays, commendeth) His love for us in this: While we were still sinners (even though we were sinful, impure, guilty, unrighteous), Christ died for us (the Messiah died in our place. We should have suffered but He did instead.).
John 15:13 (referring to Jesus Christ our Savior)
Greater love (stronger commitment) has no man than this, that He lay down His life for (the sake of) His friends.
1 Peter 3:18
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous (innocent Christ, the just One) for the unrighteous (guilty, unjust), that He might bring us to God (reconcile us, reunite, satisfy the lawful requirements), being put to death in the flesh but made alive (quickened, reawakened from death, resurrected, brought back to life) in the (power of His) Spirit.
His objective was to:
- lead us to true repentance/tenderly break our hearts away from our selfish desire to be our own leader
- provide the forgiveness and cleansing our hearts need/like the Good Samaritan
- rescue us from Satan's grasp/deliver us from the evil one's control inside of us, and from our own evil tendencies that have created separation between us and the Lord
- lovingly romance our hearts into trusting in His love for us, and into following His faith steps to our salvation
- resurrect/awaken us to His truths/lift the veil of marriage and become one in true intimacy, a knowing of Him on a higher level than we previously understood
- grow us into spiritual maturity to a place of daily walking in the Spirit with Him
- Promising us an eternal union of never-ending love
The word Eternal in Latin is aeternalis: enduring, permanent, endless
I look forward to that endlessness. Right now, I am soaking in the present tense of that. I love how permanent His love commitment is. Something very rare as seen around the world these days.
For those hurt by previous men or women who failed to provide that kind of love and commitment, I urge you to trust the Lord's love and to follow Him if He leads you to trust another human man or woman again. Be sure to only follow His prompting and not your own. He won't let you down. He led me to Kent, a truly Christlike man, in whom I can trust my heart with.
I can't wait for the day to enter into eternity with my earthly husband Kent and meet my heavenly Husband, Jesus, face to face. All because Jesus chose to pursue me, unworthy as I was throughout my life. He saw my true inner soul that was trapped in the curse of death, and sought to fight the dragon to set me free!
He will do the same for you. In fact, He is already at work doing so, as you read this. Praise Him now, in the battle. He is the Great Redeemer! Our Overcomer!
And know this: You are truly and sincerely loved by Him! No greater friend do you have, than He! Rest in this knowledge. Let it sink in deep.
